Atlanta, GA-- On a chilly December morning, several PRUMC Boot Campers gathered to run in the 21st Annual Jingle Jog.  They certainly showed up ready to race, as each one placed in their age group to earn a coveted Santa Claus trophy.  Participant Jeff Gray won his age group, while instructor Chip Owens placed 2nd.  Amy Glahn and Carolyn Pait both won their age groups, while Elly Gray placed 2nd.  Beginning on January 1st, racing will pick up again and you will definitely see PRUMC Boot Campers out there collecting hardware!

On August 8, 2008, opening day of the Beijing Olympics, PRUMC Boot Camp celebrated in its own way.  Participants ran figure 8's on the E. Rivers soccer field stopping in the middle to do exercises (pushups, situps, lunges, and everything in between.)  At the end of 88 minutes, over 25 boot campers had run 8 miles and completed 800 reps.  I would challenge Marine recruits at Paris Island to top that.

Participants qualified sub-seeded or top-seeded
(Sub 42 minutes) for the 2008 Peachtree Road Race.

Atlanta, GA --Peachtree Road Race
PRUMC Boot Camp had a great showing at the Peachtree Road Race, one of the most prestigious races in the World.  Several runners had top seeded or subseeded numbers, allowing them to start at the front.  With a new finish line and a hot, humid morning, it made for a challenging run, but a great time was had by all!  PRUMC Boot Camp is gearing up for the fall with several races on the calendar.  Weekend races are just another way to get in shape and feel great about what you're doing!

Atlanta, GA--Big Peach Running Co. 5K
PRUMC Boot Camp had a strong showing on Saturday, May 3, at the Big Peach Running Co. 5K.  With a very competitive field (two women broke the course record that morning) and a hilly course, our runners held their own.  Head instructor, Chip Owens, won his age group and placed 14th overall with an impressive time of 17:28.  Jenna Downey’s 19:13 placed her as the 7th woman overall.  Jeff Gray finished 2nd in his age group and 34th overall with a time of 19:30, and Dave Baker ran the 5K in 19:51. Having run strong all year with continued improvement, Carolyn Pait finished 2nd in her age group with a time of 23:13.  Fred Glass ran 23:13 and Elly Gray finished 3rd in her age group with a time of 24:59.  The weekend 5k’s around town challenge us to measure our improvement thanks to our weekday boot camp training and we get extra credit for participating.
